OUTREACH  PROGRAMS

Cheshire Home offers a number of ways for residents to interact with the larger community, bringing their abilities and talents into play in the world beyond Cheshire Home:

A.B.L.E. Program |  Life Skills Training  |  Sheltered Workshop

 

A.B.L.E. Program The Awareness-By-Learning-Experience (A.B.L.E) program promotes greater understanding of the needs, challenges as well as the capacities that individuals with disabilities have to live rich and productive lives. Cheshire Home residents themselves go out to civic school, and other groups to make these presentations (Click here for more information)

Life Skills Training

In the physical and occupational rehabilitation of those with spinal cord injuries, daily living skills such as meal preparation and kitchen skills are paramount in regaining one's independence. Proper nutrition, diet and food preparation take on a whole new dimension in that the reverse will seriously impact one's overall health and ability to heal.

For people with restricted mobility, the physical environment can either facilitate or reduce their independence. ln recent years, enormous progress has been achieved in the design and function of kitchens specifically designed for people with spinal cord injuries. These new kitchens are not only wheelchair accessible, but also offer a one-stop-shop to a variety of accessible features that make functioning in a kitchen possible for people with spinal cord injuries.

Sheltered Workshop (Cheshire Enterprises)

Cheshire Enterprises is a not for profit Work Center that employs adults with disabilities. Our Work Center relies on companies to provide contract work that is performed at our Florham Park facility. (Click here for more information)
