Madison High Basketball Team Volunteers at Cheshire Home!
On Friday, May 30th Coaches Steve Hughes and Mike Radzieski brought their boys' basketball team to our home for a day of volunteerism. It was the school's Annual Day of Service Learning, and we were once again the beneficiaries of the team's hard work. While weather reports threatened to rain on our parade, it turned out to be a beautiful day, and the athletes and their coaches worked all day to help us get ready for summer.
We now have beautiful flowers and a newly painted bench out front, and a cleaned yard and terrace in the back. Resident Alice's vegetable garden was weeded, and shelves of files in the basement were organized! When the day was done, we gathered outside for the group photo you see in our slide show.
As part of "giving back", each year on this special day the MHS students dedicate a day of volunteerism to organizations throughout the community. Preparation for this day takes place throughout the school year, as teachers, community organizations and students collaborate on the development of projects and the scheduling of teams.
We consider ourselves to be very fortunate, to have met so many fine young student athletes over the past nine years, and to have benefited from their hard work and dedication. We'll be looking forward to their 2014-15 season!
